Daiichi Sake Brewery was founded in 1673 in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, making it the oldest and longest-running brewery in the prefecture, and its sake was once transported by boat down the Tone River to samurai and townspeople in Edo. The Kaika brand was born at the close of the 19th century to coincide with Japan's Meiji-era modernization, and the brewery today grows and harvests all its own rice under strict quality control, producing only specially designated sake categories.
