Shigemasu is brewed by Takahashi Shoten, a brewery founded in 1717 during the Edo period in the rice-producing Yame region of Fukuoka Prefecture. The brand name was coined in 1926 by the tenth-generation owner Shigeiro, combining a character from his own name with the kanji for a sake measuring cup to symbolize prosperity, and has since built its reputation on handcrafted traditional techniques over three centuries.
