Takarayama Shuzo was founded in 1885 in Niigata City, at the foot of Tahozan, and upholds the motto of sake made with heart through manual craftsmanship, deliberately resisting mechanization across most of its production process. The fifth-generation toji sources high-quality rice through long-term partnerships with local farmers and draws on the region's exceptionally pure water to produce sake with delicate pear and apple notes and refined umami. In 2024, the brewery's sake earned a Platinum Award in the junmai category at the Paris sake competition Kura Master.
