Matsuoka Brewery in Ogawa, Saitama, has carried on traditional brewing for over 160 years since founder Yuemon relocated his entire operation to the area in 1851, eventually adopting the Mikadomatsu name as a statement of the highest aspiration: mikado for emperor and matsu for the pine tree symbolizing enduring prosperity. Using hard mineral-rich water sourced from the Chichibu mountain range and an extensive lineup of over 150 products, Mikadomatsu has won the gold prize at the National Sake Award Competition for eight consecutive years.
