Founded in 1923 on the Sanriku coast in Kamaishi, Iwate, Hamachidori Co., Ltd. brews in the heartland of the Nanbu toji tradition, a region defined by the interaction of the Sanriku Sea and the Kitakami Mountains. The brewery draws soft groundwater from the Kitakami mountain range to achieve the gentle mouthfeel it considers central to the Hamachidori character, and uses Iwate-developed rice varieties alongside established sake rice to support the local agricultural community. The brewery's stated philosophy is sake brewing as one with the natural environment of the region.
