Kirinzan Shuzo was founded in 1843 at the foot of the mythical Mount Kirin in Aga, Niigata Prefecture, taking its name from the legendary kirin, a creature in ancient Chinese lore believed to appear at the birth of a great leader. The brewery's Kagayaki line of daiginjo won gold prizes at the Japan Annual National Sake Awards for four consecutive years beginning in 2016.
