Suzuki Shuzoten traces its founding to around 1840 in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, where it brewed sake facing the sea at Ukedo Port until the 2011 tsunami and subsequent nuclear evacuation destroyed the brewery and made it impossible to continue. The team acquired a dormant brewery in Nagai City, Yamagata Prefecture, and shipped their first sake just nine months after the disaster, before eventually realizing their long-held dream of returning to Namie in 2021. Iwakikotobuki, the flagship brand, carries an auspicious name long associated with fishing boat blessings and the celebration of successful catches, and is now brewed with Koshihikari rice grown in the recovered fields of Namie Town.
