Igarashishi Shuzo was founded in the 1890s in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture, a town set amid mountains, two rivers, and dense natural reserves that supply the brewery's wells with clean, mineral-balanced water. Now in its fifth generation, the brewery produces sake under the Igarashi brand alongside its better-known Tenranzan label, with Tenranzan named after the local Tenranzan mountain meaning the emperor's mountain. The brewery has recently concentrated on directly pressed and bottled sake to deliver fresh, lightly sparkling expressions to its customers.
