Akabu Shuzo was founded in 1983 in Otsuchi on the Sanriku Coast of Iwate Prefecture, but the brewery was destroyed by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and rebuilt in Morioka City in 2013. The AKABU brand was launched by head brewer Ryunosuke Furutachi at just 22 years old, and in only its second year of production won a gold medal at the National New Sake Tasting Competition. Brewed with soft Iwate water and locally grown rice, the sake is crafted for fresh fruit aromas, soft texture, and outstanding compatibility with seafood.
