Tokun Shuzo was founded in 1825 in Sawara, a historic merchant town of Chiba Prefecture that prospered as a hub of river trade, and the brewery draws its water from the Hokuso plateau aquifer. Winning the Tokyo Regional Sake Award for 41 consecutive years and the Gold Prize at the National New Sake Appraisal 18 times, the brewery is recognized for its daiginjo-style Kano, known for its sweet and layered aroma.
