Rokkasen Co., Ltd. was formed in 1972 through the merger of five breweries in the northern Yamagata mountain district, taking its name from the classical poets known as the Six Poetry Immortals, with an aspiration to bring the same gentle grace to its sake. Positioned in the center of Yamagata Prefecture with the Ōu Mountains to the west, the brewery draws on spring water from the Kurofushi mountain system and sources approximately 98 percent of its rice from within Yamagata. Brewing follows the Junpei fermentation philosophy and the traditional three-stage preparation method, with the brewery also producing regional fruit liqueurs using Yamagata watermelon and cherries.
