Omuraya Shuzojo was founded in 1832 in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, positioned along the historic Tokaido Road where the brewery survived near-closure around 1970 before staging a revival through its Wakatake Onikoroshi brand. The Onnanakase brand emerged from that comeback period, gaining a strong following for its approachable style, and the brewery remains notable for crafting all its koji by hand in small boxes regardless of sake grade.
