Matsunokotobuki is produced by Matsui Shuzoten in Shioya Town, Tochigi Prefecture, where master brewer and president Matsui Nobuyuki became the first certified Shimotsuke Toji in 2006. The brand name layers two auspicious Japanese words, matsu meaning pine as the highest grade and kotobuki meaning felicitation, and it is brewed with Tochigi-grown rice and ultra-soft spring water that rises from the hills behind the brewery. Multiple entries from Matsui Shuzoten have been recognized at the National New Sake Competition, most recently in 2024.
