Kadoguchi Shuzoten was established in 1869 in the northernmost corner of Nagano Prefecture, in Iiyama City at the border with Niigata, where winter snowfall regularly exceeds three meters. The brewery uses snowmelt water and locally grown sake rice, and its fifth-generation president continues the tradition of cold-weather seasonal brewing in the Japanese Alps. Yousen is one of the brands produced alongside the better-known Hokko Masamune at this small mountain brewery.
