Umenoyado Brewery was founded in 1893 in Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture, where a centuries-old plum tree in the brewery garden with visiting bush warblers inspired the name, meaning plum lodge. The brewery uses ultra-soft water from the Katsuragi mountain system, Yamada Nishiki and other sake rice varieties polished to an average of 55 percent, and applies Southern-style brewing techniques to achieve a delicate and fine-textured sake. Beyond traditional sake, Umenoyado is also widely recognized for its junmai-based plum wines and the Aragoshi liqueur series, which have attracted fans in both domestic and international markets.
