Ukiyo-E is the premium artisan label of Hakutsuru Sake Brewing Co., founded in 1743 in the Nada district of Kobe, one of Japan's most storied sake-producing regions. The brand draws a direct parallel between sake craft and the Edo-period ukiyo-e printmaking tradition, with label art featuring the celebrated 1796 Kabukido Enkyo depiction of kabuki character Umeomaru, and offers Junmai, Daiginjo, and Junmai Daiginjo expressions brewed with Yamadanishiki or the house-developed Hakutsurunishiki rice and proprietary Hakutsuru yeast.
