Sake Brand

Tenju

Tenju Shuzo was founded in 1830 by Ohi Eikichi at the foot of Mount Chokai in Yurihonjo, Akita Prefecture, and the brand name means a life lived fully to one hundred years. The brewery established the Tenju Sake Rice Research Association in 1983, one of the first in Japan to organize farmer-brewer collaboration for developing premium sake rice, and has continued that partnership with local growers for over forty years. Soft underground water from Mount Chokai and cold, low-temperature fermentation in the harsh Akita winters are the foundation of Tenju's rounded, fine-textured style.
