Nagai Shuzoujo was established in 1866 in Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture, by founder Jirobei Nagai, who chose the site for its access to the subterranean flows of the Yahagi River. For over 150 years the brewery has held quality as its first principle, brewing its representative label Seishu (Shoseі) as a clear, dry sake reflecting the Mikawa regional palate for rich-bodied, savory flavors. The brewery continues to produce and sell its sake directly from the original Hekinan site, with the Shoseі brand anchoring its lineup alongside table label Tatsukichi no Sato.
