Mogamigawa

Mogamigawa takes its name from the 'mother river' of Yamagata Prefecture, a waterway that Matsuo Basho immortalized in haiku and that has carried culture through the region for centuries. The brand was originally produced by a now-closed brewery in Shinjo City and was subsequently taken on by Koya Shuzo in the snowbound village of Okuramura, located near the river's upper reaches in an area known for abundant clean water. Expressions in the lineup use representative Yamagata rice varieties to produce sake with mellow rice umami, crisp dryness, and a balance well suited to food.
