Machida Shuzo, established in 1883 in Gunma Prefecture and now in its fifth generation, built its reputation on a principle held since the founding: selecting each grain of rice by hand. The brewery gained national attention in 2006 when its master brewer became the first woman toji in Gunma Prefecture to win a gold medal at the Annual Japan Sake Awards, a recognition the brewery has since accumulated eight times. The sake is characterized by vibrant floral aroma, a clean palate shaped by soft water from the Tone River system, and a subtle fruitiness that reflects the brewery's meticulous fermentation control.
