Hosui Shuzo was founded in 1913 in Tokushima Prefecture, in a mountainous region of Shikoku where underground water flows from the Yoshino River provides an exceptional brewing base. In 1916 the founder produced a sake of such distinctive aroma that it was named Hosui, after classical Chinese poetry evoking the Yoshino River, and in 2003 the brewery presented its Junmai Daiginjo to Japan's then Crown Prince.
