Hakubotan traces its origins to 1672 in Saijo, Hiroshima Prefecture, one of Japan's most celebrated sake-brewing towns, and its brand name was formally bestowed in 1839 by the prestigious Takatsukasa regent family of Kyoto. Over more than three centuries the brewery has drawn on locally developed Hiroshima sake rice and the region's characteristically soft water, offering a range that spans everyday table sake to premium daiginjo expressions.
