Bunbuku Shuzo, founded in 1825 in Tatebayashi, Gunma, takes its name from the local legend of the Bunbuku Chagama, a magical tanuki said to have transformed into a teakettle, making the brand name a symbol of good fortune shared. The brewery uses natural water from the Akagi mountain system and follows entirely handcrafted processes from rice washing onward, with its historic storehouse designated a registered national cultural property of Japan.
