Founded in the first year of the Meireki era, drawing on abundant groundwater filtered through the Tone River's gravel layer and grain from the fertile Soma and Yawara plains to begin sake brewing.
1884
During Emperor Meiji's visit to Ushiku for Imperial Guard artillery drills (Meiji 17), he grew thirsty en route to his lodging; well water from this brewery was offered and greatly pleased him. In gratitude, he is said to have bestowed the brand name 'Kimibandai'.
