Miyazaki is primarily a shochu (焼酎) prefecture — its warm subtropical climate and agricultural products like sweet potato and barley favor shochu production. However, a small number of sake breweries persist, producing junmai that reflects the warmer southern climate and pairs with Miyazaki's famous Wagyu beef and chicken nanban.
