Narumi Jozoten, established in 1806 in Kuroishi, Aomori Prefecture, is the oldest sake brewery in the city, and its main building is estimated to predate even the brewery's official founding by decades, now recognized as a cultural heritage of Kuroishi. The Kikunoi brand owes its name to the second-generation owner, who was so devoted to chrysanthemums that he incorporated their branches into the pressing process, believing the flowers would lend fragrance and delight to every cup.
