Takanami is the flagship brand of Marunaga Shuzo, founded in 1868 in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, one of the oldest breweries in the region. The name Takanami was adopted in 1934 after winning at a national sake competition, honoring the old place name Takaide in Shiojiri. The brewery maintains a family-run scale, producing sake by hand with high-quality rice including Yamada Nishiki and Miyama Nishiki, using traditional low-temperature long-term fermentation to achieve a soft, deep taste with a gentle aroma.
