Gensen ('Original Source') from Azumamine Shuzo in Shiwa Town, Iwate, is a Tokubetsu Honjozo from one of Japan's oldest sake breweries, founded in 1781 as the predecessor that gave birth to the Nanbu Toji tradition. The Gensen label reflects the brewery's connection to the deep historical roots of Tohoku sake craftsmanship.

吾妻嶺酒造的前身為江戶時代天明元年(1781年)創立的紫波酒造。更早之前的前身「權兵衛酒鋪」在延寶年間(1670年代)釀造出了岩手最早的「清酒」,為這家酒藏日後的發展奠定了基礎。酒造傳承南部杜氏的釀造主流,以每年500石的小批量精心釀造,從備料到完成一絲不苟,以「岩手風格的酒」為目標。
