沿革
- 1873Founder Nakakichi Niizawa established Shinzawa Shoten.
- 1925Renamed the flagship brand to Atagonomatsu after an audience with the Prince Regent (later Emperor Showa), honoring the pines of Mt. Atago.
- 1950Incorporated as Niizawa Brewery Co., Ltd.
- 2002Began brewing Hakurakusei, named after the legendary horse Ikezuki of the Sanbongi region.
- 2005Hakurakusei Junmai Daiginjo began being served in Japan Airlines business class, and overseas exports started.
- 2011The brewery and family home were destroyed in the 2011 Tohoku earthquake; brewing was relocated 70km away to Kawasaki, Miyagi.
- 2018Nanami Watanabe was appointed toji (master brewer) at age 22, the youngest female toji in Japan.
- 2022Ranked No. 1 in the World's Best Sake Breweries and won IWC Sake Brewer of the Year.
