Yamahoushi is the flagship brand of Rokkasen, a brewery in Yamagata Prefecture that sources approximately 98 percent of its sake rice from local Yamagata growers, including varieties such as Dewa Sanzan, Miyamanishiki, and the regional table rice Haenuki and Tsuyahime. The brand name was gifted by a monk more than twenty years ago to reflect the idea that great sake emerges from the harmony of human skill and the natural forces of koji and fermentation. Brewed using the traditional three-stage moromi method and guided by the principle of wa jo ryo shu (harmony brewing good sake), Yamahoushi is known for its fruity character and approachable profile.
