Ryozeki Shuzo was founded in 1847 in Yuzawa, Akita, a region renowned for its brewing climate, and its main warehouse complex is designated as the first registered tangible cultural property among sake breweries in the prefecture. The brewery's name, meaning both grand champions, reflects a founding ambition to stand at the pinnacle of Japanese sake, east and west alike, and production follows a distinctive low-temperature long-term fermentation method the brewery calls its own. Brewed under the motto wa-jo ryo-shu (harmony yields fine sake), Ryouzeki has won recognition at the Wine Glass Delicious Sake Awards and continues to release limited annual experimental batches.
