Founded in 1782 as Nishioka Honten, Hananoi draws its name from the granite-filtered spring water that surfaces on the brewery's grounds in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Tsukuba. The brewery uses locally grown rice varieties including Ibaraki's original sake rice Hitachi Nishiki, and its junmai won the top Platinum award at the Paris Salon du Sake 2017. Aged food-pairing styles alongside cleaner pure rice expressions define the current range.
