大关的美国篇章始于1979年，在加利福尼亚州霍利斯特建立了美国第一家在本土生产日本清酒的酿造厂，选址原因是当地高品质的本地大米和来自内华达山脉的清澈水源。母公司的历史可追溯至1711年，当时坂屋长兵卫在兵库县滩区创立了万两，1884年品牌更名为大关，以致敬相扑中第二高级别。
