Five is the flagship sake of Sakai Shuzo, a brewery established in 1871 along the Nishiki River in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The brand name references the five-span arches of the Kintaikyo, Iwakuni's iconic wooden bridge, echoing the brewery's principal label Gokyo, meaning five bridges. Sakai Shuzo is guided by the principle of doing simple things thoroughly to produce good sake, and has maintained a commitment to local rice cultivation and traditional kioke wooden-barrel fermentation alongside its core brewing program.
