Fukuda Shuzo has been brewing in Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture, for approximately 330 years, receiving permission from the lord of the Hirado domain in 1688 to produce sake at the southwestern edge of Kyushu facing the sea. The brewery's flagship Fukuda brand, launched in 2010 and guided by the 14th-generation head Fukuda Akira, won the Platinum Award at the Kura Master competition in France in 2018 and went on to claim gold for three consecutive years.
