Morikawa Shuzo was established in 1887 at the eastern foot of Mount Noro in Setonaikai National Park, southern Hiroshima Prefecture, alongside the clear waters of the Norogawa river. The HAKUKO name, written with characters meaning white and great bird, evokes a pure white bird soaring upward and reflects the brewery's original brand Morizuru, which was also crane-themed. Intended as an everyday sake that supports rather than dominates a meal, HAKUKO has earned international recognition including a gold medal at the 2014 International Wine Challenge.
