Kutsukake Shuzo has been brewing along the Hokkoku Kaido highway in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture since the Genroku era (1688-1704), making it one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in the region. The brand name Fukumuryo is drawn from a passage in the Kannon Sutra, expressing the wish for boundless good fortune for everyone who drinks. The brewery is known for its pure-rice lineup including tokubetsu junmai and junmai daiginjo expressions that regularly appear at regional sake events.
