Choryu is produced by Choryushuzo, founded in 1963 in Kitakatsuragi, Nara Prefecture, the region historically regarded as the birthplace of Japanese sake brewing. The brewery's guiding spirit, Shodo Mukyukyoku, holds that the pursuit of quality in sake brewing has no limits, and its Yoshino Cedar Barrel Sake is a signature expression, bottled in contact with premium Japanese cedar over 80 years old. Choryu received Gold Awards at the Monde Selection for 10 consecutive years beginning in 1992 and won a Gold Award at the International Wine Challenge in 2009.
