隱岐酒造於1972年由菊水、高正宗、沖鶴、御所等五家酒藏(西鄉酒造組合)聯合創立,並選定了代表品牌。隱岐群島自《古事記》《日本書紀》時代便有文獻記載,由距島根半島約40至60公里的日本海中大小逾180座島嶼組成,歷史上曾是後鳥羽、後醍醐天皇流放之地,以奇岩海礁等自然景觀著稱。島上雨霧豐沛、森林茂密,對馬暖流帶來清澈的水源,環境廳評選的「百名水」中有兩處即在此地。酒藏在這片富饒的自然環境中釀造日本酒、燒酒及利口酒。
