Tachibanaya

Tachibanaya traces its origins to 1902, when the first-generation president Keiji Kawana began brewing in the former Nango Town of Miyagi Prefecture using rice from his own fields, naming the venture after the family's existing hardware merchant business. Kawakei Shoten's older flagship brand, Koganesawa, won a Gold Prize at the Annual Japan Sake Awards for 16 consecutive years from 1997 to 2019, a record that underscores the brewery's mastery of the yamahai method, which cultivates lactic acid naturally using wild bacteria for a slow, robust fermentation. Tachibanaya, launched in 1997, stands alongside Koganesawa as a second expression of that same tradition in Wakuya, a town historically tied to Japan's oldest gold-producing area.
