大關的美國篇章始於1979年，在加利福尼亞州霍利斯特建立了美國第一家在本土生產日本清酒的釀造廠，選址原因是當地高品質的本地大米和來自內華達山脈的清澈水源。母公司的歷史可追溯至1711年，當時坂屋長兵衛在兵庫縣灘區創立了萬兩，1884年品牌更名為大關，以致敬相撲中第二高級別。
