Kyushudanji

Kikubijin Shuzo was founded in 1717 in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a region once home to some forty sake breweries of which Kikubijin is now the sole survivor. The brewery's history carries a cultural thread: poet Hakushu Kitahara, a celebrated figure of early twentieth-century Japanese literature, contributed to the brewery's label and songs through a family connection. Kikubijin hand-presses its sake using drop-pressing and tank-pressing techniques, emphasizing clean flavor that fully expresses the character of the rice.
