Hakuro Shuzo was established in 1751 in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, and in 1882 the Yamazaki family — former vassals of the Nagaoka Domain's ruling Makino clan — took over the brewery, inheriting both the three-oak family crest and the Hakuro brand name. Brewed with Niigata's Gohyakumangoku rice and the expertise of Echigo toji, Koshino Hakuro is defined by the light and dry tanrei style that is synonymous with the region.
