Matsuzaki Shuzo, founded in 1892 in Tenei Village, Fukushima Prefecture, named its flagship Hirotogawa after the historic old name of the river that flows through the village — now known as the Shakadogawa. Toji and owner Hiroyuki Matsuzaki took on the role at just 26 years old and went on to win the national new sake tasting gold award for seven consecutive years, and the Sake Competition Young Brewer Award in 2017; the brewery's special junmai was also selected as an official sake at the G7 Hiroshima Summit. The entire lineup is brewed exclusively with Fukushima-grown Yume no Kaori sake rice.
