Chikurin

by

Marumoto Sake Brewery, founded in 1867 at the base of the Chikurin-ji Mountains in Okayama Prefecture, built its reputation on site-specific farming: the farmers who grow the rice also brew the sake, earning the brewery its nickname the Farmers' Brewery. In the early 1990s, the sixth-generation president committed to growing 100 percent of the rice in-house and launched the Chikurin brand, named after the mountains behind the brewery, to showcase that homegrown grain.
