沿革

1. 1716In 1716 (Kyoho 1), Kanroemon, the third generation of the Takahashi family (a branch of the family of the head priest of Gion Tenno-gu, now Yasaka Shrine, in Tenno, Asahi, Echizen), began brewing sake as a family trade.
2. 1720In 1720 (Kyoho 5), the brewery acquired a sake brewing license (sakekabu) from Oshimaya in Fukui City and became a full-fledged sake brewer, drawing on the sacred spring water of the Tenno-gu shrine grounds.
3. 1427In 1427 (Oei 34), Masayori, the sixth-generation head of the Asukai clan (hereditary masters of waka poetry and kemari), planted a cherry tree on the shrine's hillside at age 54 to commemorate his pilgrimage to Gion Tenno-gu; the tree became known as 'Asukai-zakura,' the origin of the brand name Asukai.
