Kitagawa Honke has been brewing sake in Fushimi, Kyoto since its founding in 1657, making it one of the longest-running sake operations in Japan's most storied brewing district. The brand name Tomio derives from the Nine Chinese Classic Texts, carrying the meaning those who are rich in spirit will enjoy a long, happy life. Between 1983 and 2023, the brewery earned 21 gold awards at the National New Sake Awards, a record that reflects more than three and a half centuries of accumulated craft.
