Founded during the Kyoho era of the Edo period (around 1715).
1940
Yasukichi Onuma, credited with reviving the Toraya brewery, spun off the Sagae factory as an independent company (now Chiyokotobuki Toraya) and renamed the main house 'Kotobukitoraya Shuzo'.
1962
Built a new plant in Nanukamachi, central Yamagata City, with one basement level and three above-ground floors, approximately 1,200 tsubo.
1989
Began operations on January 25 at a new suburban plant (site area approx. 6,000 tsubo, building area approx. 2,000 tsubo).
