Die traditionelle Brauerei von Kishu, Sekaiittou, nutzt das klare Grundwasser der Kinogawa und arbeitet mit einem erfahrenen Braumeister und einem herausragenden Technikerteam. Kumagusu Minami (Minamikumagusu, 1867-1941), ein weltbekannter Wissensriese mit großen Verdiensten um die Botanik (insbesondere Schleimpilze) und die Volkskunde, setzte sich auch für den Schutz des als Weltkulturerbe eingetragenen Kumano-Waldes ein. Er ist der Sohn des Gründers Yaemon Minamikata.

Meilensteine
- 1884Founder Yaemon Minakata (father of naturalist Kumagusu Minakata) acquired land and buildings that had been a Kishu Domain rice storehouse and began sake brewing in Wakayama City.
- 1907Under second-generation head Tsunekusu Minakata, Count Shigenobu Okuma named the sake and company 'Sekaiitto'.
- 1926Reorganized from a sole proprietorship into a corporation named 'Minakata Shuzo Co., Ltd.' (6,881 koku brewed).
- 1945Lost all production facilities in the air raid on Wakayama; immediately rebuilt, constructing the 'East Kura' on the head office site and resuming brewing (781 koku).
- 1971Changed the company name to match the sake brand, becoming 'Sekaiitto Co., Ltd.'; obtained a full liquor wholesale license and began handling Western liquors.
- 1977Commercialized the ginjo 'Ichi' brand, still a core product line today.
- 1991Established the honjozo 'Kumagusu' brand; its gift box combining a photo of Kumagusu Minakata with his slime-mold drawings won package design awards.
- 2008Launched the limited-brewing 'Minakata' series, sharing its name with the brewery family.
