Histoire

1830
Founder Kanzaburo Tanaka, who had learned sake brewing in Niigata, began brewing sake in the old village of Mawatashi (present-day Mawatashi).
1889
Following the Meiji-era municipal reorganization (Meiji 22), Mawatashi village merged with neighboring villages to become 'Asahi-mura', the origin of the brewery's current name Asahizuru.
1955
In Showa 30, only the former Mawatashi area of Asahi-mura was incorporated into Sakura City, and the brewery's sake became known as 'Sakura no Jizake' (Sakura's local sake).
